Summary:
William Paterson University invites applications for a of full time Non-Tenure Track Faculty Sound Engineering Arts position. Start date is August 15, 2022.

Reporting to the Music Department Chair, non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Music supports the Bachelor of Music program in Sound Engineering Arts (SEA) as well as the minor in Digital Music Creation and Arranging.

In collaboration with the department chairperson, the incumbent directs the SEA program, coordinates internships for SEA majors, and teaches classes in the program. This position supports the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body in the Program.


Duties:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaches courses, both in-person and online, in sound engineering, music technology, digital music creation, and other areas as needed and as appropriate to the position.
  • Oversees the SEA curriculum. Develops and proposes new curriculum to reflect current and emerging practices in the field.
  • Supervises and hires student workers.
  • Schedules and oversees recording sessions and classes in the recording studio. Maintains audio production facilities and equipment in the studios.
  • Recruits, supports, mentor, and advises students in the SEA program.
  • Supports student enrollment and retention within the program as well as assessment of the program.
  • Coordinates and oversees the internship program for SEA students.
  • Participates in department, college, and/or university level committees designed to enhance instructional processes and/or programs and services.
  • Serves on appropriate student committees.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and emerging trends in the field through professional development and other opportunities.
  • Perform other teaching or administrative duties as assigned, based on departmental and programmatic needs.




Qualifications:
Required qualifications:

  • Master of Music, Master of the Arts or Master of Science in audio engineering, music technology, sound arts, sound design, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience related to the functions of the position.
  • Proficiency using analog and digital audio hardware and software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the current professional music recording industry.
  • Knowledge of current and past professional audio recording techniques.
  • Ability to diagnose hardware and software problems in a recording studio setting.
  • Ability to work in an online environment or willing to learn.

Additional, preferred qualifications:

  • Past and continued experience as an audio professional.
  • Relationship to or ability to create relationships among the professional audio industry with the ability to develop and maintain internship opportunities, attract guest speakers, and aid in career opportunities for students.
  • Administrative, curriculum development, and teaching experience in higher education.
  • Professional experience as a performing musician, music producer, or songwriter.
